DELLS BUCKETLIST #26 - Spending an afternoon at the Country Bumpkin Farm Market

Over the past two years I’ve crossed off over twenty-five things from my Dells Bucket List, but none have come close to providing the vast amount of different activities I experienced as when I visited the Country Bumpkin Farm Market.

Established in 1997 by owners Charlie and Cindy Rhinehart, the Country Bumpkin Farm Market offers over fifty different varieties of homegrown berries, fruits, and vegetables, along with bakery treats, flower baskets, crafts, and unique gifts. On top of all this, they have a petting zoo, a play town, corn mazes, zip lines, peddle karts, a tractor pulled train, and even a slingshot and catapult to launch fruit and vegetables through the air – all of which I got to experience during a recent visit.

DELLS BUCKET LIST #25 - Visiting Wally World Arcade, Krazy Mirror Maze, Shootin' Gallery, Haunted Mansion & Torture Museum

Over the years I’ve visited many Dells area attractions, but recently I had the opportunity to visit five of them, all in one afternoon. This whirlwind experience came courtesy of Wally Nekyha and his wife Terry, owners of the downtown attractions – The Haunted Mansion, Torture Museum, Shootin’ Gallery, Krazy Mirror Maze, and Wally World Arcade.

DELLS BUCKET LIST #24 - Getting ink at Point Blank Tattoo & Body Piercing

Having a needle penetrate my body between 50 and 3000 times per minute is not something I let happen to me often, but for my latest Dells Bucket List behind-the-scenes adventure, the alluring draw of getting ink permanently imbedded into my skin was just too much to resist.

Point Blank Tattoo and Body Piercing studio is located on the strip in downtown Wisconsin Dells, and has been giving both tourists and locals alike beautiful custom works of art on their bodies since 1997. Recently, I got to spend time hanging out with the Point Blank artists who taught me about the tattoo process, and ended up giving me some new skin art of my own. 

DELLS BUCKET LIST #23 - Going behind-the-scenes of Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort

Recently, I had the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes tour of a place I’ve driven by numerous times, but never actually ventured into. While this was partly due to being someone that only goes camping once in a blue moon, the fact that it’s named after a cartoon character made me think it was strictly for families with small children. As it turns out, there’s a lot more things to do at this campground then stuff just for kids.

Personally, nothing makes the movie experience more perfect than smelling the unmistakable, mouth-watering aroma of fresh, hot buttered popcorn. For my latest Dells Bucket List adventure, I got to relive one of my first jobs by having the opportunity to once again make the classic, movie watching snack.

Watching a wedding never fails to bring a smile to my face but after having suffered through many long, drawn out wedding ceremonies throughout my lifetime, they usually aren’t something I particularly look forward to attending.

This was before I went behind the scenes of the Dells Bells Wedding Chapel, where for my latest Dells Bucket List adventure I got to witness a couple’s complete wedding experience, taking less time than it did for me to recently get fitted for a tux.

Eating authentic food from one of my favorite cities is usually something I only experience while on vacation. Being it’s been a couple years since my last visit, having the opportunity to enjoy delicious Cajun cuisine right here in the Dells, saving me the over one thousand mile trip south, definitely made my recent stop at the Taste of New Orleans restaurant a highly enjoyable one.

Dells Bucket List #19 - Going behind the-scenes of Fawn Creek Winery

Having the opportunity to sample a large variety of locally made wine, especially after learning firsthand how each was produced from start to finish, is an experience I won’t soon forget.   

Recently, I had the chance to go behind-the-scenes of Fawn Creek Winery, located in a maple, oak and pine grove about ten miles north of downtown Wisconsin Dells. There, I was explained the wine making process by their experts, as well as had the chance to enjoy many of the thirteen different wines that they produce.

BUCKET LIST #18 - Making candy at BARABOO CANDY COMPANY

Ever since I watched the classic fantasy movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory as a child, I’ve dreamed of one day having the chance to explore an actual chocolate factory. This childhood dream was recently realized when I had the opportunity to go behind-the-scenes of the Baraboo Candy Company, home to numerous chocolaty confections.

Getting my hands dirty is usually something I find rather unpleasant, but when recently given the opportunity to go behind-the-scenes of the Paint It! Pottery Shop, I found getting messy while transforming a spinning lump of clay can actually be quite fun.

On a Saturday afternoon last month I had opportunity to go behind-the-scenes of a Dells attraction that until recently, I never even knew existed. Dells Raceway Park has been home to thrilling stock car racing for the past fifty years, and while it might not be as well known as some of the other Dells mainstays, I found that it offers just as much excitement, if not more.

Finding myself behind the wheel of a thirty-six foot long, twelve hundred horsepower jet boat speeding across the scenic Upper Dells Wisconsin River is something I’ll never forget.

Having the opportunity for such a memorable experience was made possible by the generosity of Ron Yohn, who for my latest Dells Bucket List adventure, taught me how to do exhilarating spins, splashes, and power stops in one of the Captain Ron’s Original and WildThing Jet Boats.

Usually, using power tools is something I try to avoid whenever possible, but during my latest Dells Bucket List adventure not only did I find myself wielding a chainsaw, I realized that it can be rather fun as well.

The tradition of eating bratwurst while drinking a beer has been an appetizing combination for almost a century. While this combo can be consumed in many Wisconsin bars and restaurants, having the opportunity to do so in a one hundred and sixty-two year old former church that some say is haunted most likely can only take place at Lake Delton’s Brat House Grill.

Sampling a variety of different beers before breakfast is not something I do often since my college years, but being I recently got to go behind-the-scenes of Moosejaw Pizza and Dells Brewing Company for my latest Dells Bucket List adventure, I wasn’t about to let the opportunity to partake freshly brewed beer in the morning slip away.

It’s not every day you have 100,000 volts of static electricity shot through your body, get to see your shadow frozen in time upon a wall, and have a sense of what it was like to be on the Russian Space Station Mir, but all of these cool and unique sensations were experienced during my recent behind-the-scenes visit to The Tommy Bartlett Exploratory.

Eating a meal next to a telephone booth that has a Superman mannequin inside, or with a life-sized gorilla riding a motorbike hanging above you from the ceiling, is not something you’ll get to experience at your average everyday restaurant. Luckily, if you want to eat breakfast or lunch while getting some fun sensory stimuli, you’ll find that the Lake Delton mainstay Denny’s Diner is the perfect place to visit - as it is anything but average.

DELLS BUCKET LIST #9 - Going behind-the-scenes of RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT!

Holding someone’s head in the palm of my hand, especially one detached from their body and shrunken down to the size of a coconut, is something I know I’ll never forget.

This admittedly freaky occurrence took place recently during my behind-the-scenes tour of downtown’s Ripley’s Believe It or Not! “Odditorium,” where getting to hold a few of their authentic shrunken heads was one of the many highlights.
